Things have been kind of slow on the Blog this summer. That’s totally because of me. I managed to come down with Meningitis on the 4th of July weekend and it caused me to lose July and most of August. Not a fun thing to do. Well it certainly taught me a few things. First of all, being a huge health advocate, and very big into natural healing and nutrition, I realized how vitally important it really is. I had Meningitis about 14 years ago, I actually thought you couldn’t get it again once you had it, but I was very wrong. As the doctor said to me in the hospital, you’re one of the lucky few. I would have rather won the lottery! Anyway 14 years ago it took me 7 ½ months to get back on my feet and even then I was pretty shaky for weeks after that. This time I was over most of my symptoms and in decent shape after 4 weeks although it has taken another couple of weeks to get most of the “fuzzies” out of my head. That part comes from your brain swelling which makes it hard to focus and can affect your short-term memory pretty severely.

What did I do differently this time? The biggest thing was I relied on excellent nutrition and lots of rest. Medication and I don’t get along very well. I’m one of those people that has adverse effects from any pain or anti-inflammatory meds. They usually don’t do much of anything for me except make me feel sleepy, crabby and violently sick to my stomach, not a good combination. As soon as I got out of the hospital I went right back to my digestive enzymes, nutrition and immune building products and lots of rest. Thank heavens because it made a huge difference in my recovery time. Taking in to account the fact I’m 14 years older which ordinarily would mean that my recovery time would take longer than it did the first time, you can see why I’m so excited with the results good nutrition played in my recuperation.

This brings me to one of my favorite subjects, taking care of your health. I’ve written several articles on health and nutrition and I’m a firm believer in making your health a priority in your life. Speaking with a very good friend, world-renowned Immunoenzymologist Ron Schneider, (the first person my husband called when I went into the hospital) about the immune system and how to best help your body, help itself. I learned, as I always do from Ron’s vast knowledge of the human body, exactly what it takes to help your body recover faster. (You can access Ron at www.enzymes4life.net ) Ron shared with me the fact that viruses are all around us and we are sure to be exposed to them, and often get them. However, it is the state of your immune system that determines how quickly and effectively you will throw them off. Thank heavens my immune system was in good shape and my body was able to fight off this debilitating virus very quickly. (That didn’t happen 14 years ago as evidenced by my much longer recovery time).

The quality of your life depends a great deal on your body’s ability to sustain good health and fight off disease. If you are not where you need to be health wise, you need to take steps to get there as quickly as possible. I have asked Ron to spend some time with us so I can share with you some of the most important things you can do to improve your health as quickly as possible. I’m excited to have his time and attention and even more thrilled to be able to share that information with all of you. In the meantime like I mentioned before, go to www.enzymes4life.net and meet Ron for yourself. Make sure to check out the video at the top of the page on digestive enzymes and why each of us needs them every single day. Excellent information, in fact it’s life extending and often life saving!
Until later Have a Beautiful Day,

Are you a water drinker? Not juice, milk, coffee, or soda, but water? You should be. Did you know that 75% of American’s are chronically dehydrated? Even mild dehydration can slow down your metabolism as much as 3%. That may not seem like much but in today’s society with so many people constantly trying to lose weight, it definitely makes a difference. Did you know dehydration is the number 1 cause of daytime fatigue? As little as a 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory and problems with simple math.

Water affects every part of your body. For example, when you don’t get enough of it, your kidneys don’t work properly, and you can even experience symptoms of heartburn, angina, lower back pain, headaches, migraine headaches, fibromyalgia pain, asthma, hot flashes, even morning sickness during pregnancy. It can also bring about many “feelings” in the body like, feeling tired, flushed, irritable, anxious, depressed, and not sleeping well. In fact, dehydration can cause, not only pain, but disease, decay, and even premature death. This really got me, next to oxygen, water is the most essential material for the efficient working of the brain. This list just scratches the surface. It would take an entire book to cover all the things that can affect you when your body is dehydrated. As you can see, we are not dealing with a minor issue here.

It’s also vital to remember that nothing lives without water. Unfortunately one of the biggest mistakes most of us make is thinking soft drinks, coffee, juice or any other beverage is in the same category that water is. They don’t even come close. They may be wet, but that is where the similarity stops. Every other beverage, even milk (which is a food), has its own characteristics and chemicals in it. The differences change the way your body utilizes each of these different beverages in your system.

Water can help you lose weight (my favorite part!), fight constipation, and maintain muscle tone. It helps reduce the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and the clogging of your arteries in your heart and brain. It’s a better pick-me-up than any other beverage in the world and it has no side effects. And that’s just the beginning!

So don’t wait another minute go get yourself a nice big glass of water, right now, and make sure that one is not the only one you drink for the day! Now you can see why so many people carry water bottles with them wherever they go. It makes it easier to get more of that life enhancing nectar we all need.

My husband and I really look forward to nice weather so we can get out and ride our bikes. It’s also a great way to reconnect with friends and neighbors or spend a little time with your family.

Are you, or have you ever been a bike rider? It’s wonderful exercise and gives you excellent return for your time investment. You can ride a mile, often in 10 minutes or less and 50 to 60 minutes of fast paced riding can burn up to 1000 calories. Find a riding partner. It’s a great way to socialize with a friend, your honey, or even your kids.

Outside riding is the best because you can focus on the scenery along the way. You also have a tendency to go further when you are outside then you will on a stationary bike. And this is the perfect season to get started.

Don’t want to venture too far? Do a circuit around your neighborhood. Figure out the mileage and ride that circuit 2, 3, 4 or more times to reach the number of miles you can go in the time you’ve set aside. Some days we only have time for 4 or 5 miles others we will go 6, 8 or 10. The more you ride, the better you feel, the more weight you lose and the stronger you get.
Remember to stretch before you ride, it helps increase your flexibility. And riding increases your lung capacity because you automatically breathe deeper. The deeper you breathe the better oxygen intake you have. And that’s good for your entire body and your brain, not to mention your blood.
So go ahead and go for it, the more you do it, the more you’ll want to.

It’s that time of year again when everything is putting on a fresh new face. The flowers are blooming; the grass is growing, and the trees are filling out. And unfortunately we often do the same thing. Isn’t it always the way? We hibernate under our big “winter” clothes and then boom, spring is here and we lose our cover … literally!

Time to get serious and start getting in better shape. The good part is when you start working towards getting in shape you also automatically start feeling better.

Start with moving … sounds simple enough but if you stop to think about it, and really look at your day, chances are you don’t do much of it, unless you are really into exercise. This is especially true, if you sit or stand most of your workday, which is totally unhealthy for you.

Have a dog? Take a few minutes to walk it a couple of times a day. In many cases a couple turns around a block or two where you live on can equal close to a half-mile. Not only does it help limber you up, but it increases your oxygen intake which is good for clearer thinking, better blood flow and healthier lungs, and it’s an excellent de-stressor. Try doing it for a few minutes in the morning before you go to work and again, either when you get home or after dinner. It only requires a few extra minutes in the morning.

The benefits definitely outweigh the few minutes earlier you have to get up. If you have a little extra time in the evening make your walk a little longer, it helps de-stress you from your day, digest your food, get your muscles moving after being dormant most of the day and it will even help you sleep better. You’ll be surprised at how much better you and your dog will feel.

Don’t have a dog? Go with your kids, or your honey, or take the time for yourself. It will improve your overall well-being and you’ll definitely reap the benefits for your body and your health.

Until Later, Have a Beautiful Day …

Let’s talk about your health. It’s one of my favorite subjects. Probably because about 15 years ago, I wasn’t very healthy. In fact, I was a mess. I had 7 herniated discs in my neck, arthritis, and insomnia. Everything was beginning to creek on a pretty regular basis and my allergies and bronchitis were totally out of control. I took several pain and allergy pills every single day of my life. And on top of everything else, I was recovering from meningitis. I was 45 and feeling 75.

I knew I had to do something pretty quick or I was going to be putting in an advanced order for a walker or a wheelchair sometime in the not too distant future. I had a 3-year-old daughter and felt more like a grandmother than a new mom.

I began to read and investigate every single thing I could about health and how to achieve it. I was astounded at what I uncovered. It wasn’t even hard to put into practice most of the things I learned. So I’m going to attempt to share with you some very simple yet very powerful things I found out and if you use even a few of them, you will be amazed at what a difference it will make in how you feel, now and for the rest of your life.

Personally, practicing the very things I would like to share with you, I am no longer bothered by allergies, bronchitis, insomnia, or fatigue. I never had to have spinal fusion surgery and have almost no pain from my discs, or arthritis either. My energy level is easily double that of most other people I associate with, my age and younger. And I not longer need pain or allergy meds.

It never ceases to amaze me that most of us are so poorly educated on nutrition and its healing effects on the body. Or, for that matter, what simply drinking the right amount of water will do for you, or breathing right. Who even knew there was a right and wrong way to breathe and how seriously it affects your health. Not to mention so many little things we do every single day that dramatically affect our health.

Several years ago, I wrote several articles on health, which we will soon be putting into our new WLB community area for you to download, if you would like. Meanwhile, I’ll share some hints and tips that we’ve found very beneficial and we’re sure you will too. After all, in this day and age, if you don’t make your health a priority, you won’t have much of a life to live. And isn’t life all about living?

One day I was enjoying a walk in the park with my dogs, a leisurely bike ride and the beautiful spring flowers. The next day we had 30 inches of snow, all the flowers were dead and my dogs wouldn’t even go near the door. What’s wrong with this picture? I guess it’s kind of like life. One day everything seems to be going along perfectly and the next, things are tumbling down around us. Why does that happen? We could say it’s all in how we look at it.

I guess I could have gotten really angry about all my beautiful flowers being under 30 inches of snow, but fortunately, because I had heard the Weather Channel report, I cut most of them and brought them inside. So I had a house full of spring blooms. Is it perfect? No, but at least I was able to enjoy them. Their beauty and scent filled my home and it felt like spring inside the house.

Life is kind of like that when you think about it. One day everything seems to be sailing along doing just fine and the next day, we are knee deep in a ton of problems. What comes out of that varies for different people. For some it’s doom and gloom, for others it’s an opportunity to grow and learn. Which one are you?

If you’re raising a family in this all too difficult time, then it might be a good idea for you to look into being one of the ones who utilizes stressful and unhappy situations to grow and learn from. Kind of like cutting the flowers before they froze instead of just complaining about the weather. Throughout our lives we will be faced with many trying and unhappy situations, but it’s how we handle them that really makes us who we are. It also paints a big picture for our children on how to handle things.

If you are easily upset and complaining, then you can pretty well expect that your children will pick up those same habits. If you are optimistic and try to find the good in each situation (and believe me I find that very hard to do sometimes) then chances are, even if you don’t see it right away, especially with teenagers, your children will eventually grow into doing much of the same thing. It’s kind of like that old adage if life gives you lemons make lemonade.

So the next time you are faced with a trying situation, think about what you can get out of it. What are you supposed to learn from it? What can you do to turn it around? You may be very pleasantly surprised to see that the answer you need is right there in front of you. In fact, it may even be life changing for you. I have often wondered if God gives us situations we aren’t happy about to teach us how to grow. And, we being typical humans, just grumble and complain instead of finding the lesson or the good in the adversity. What do you suppose your life would be like if you tried to look at it the other way for a change?

In today’s world, almost everyone wants to “check you out ... the first place they go to is the Internet.” So a web site is very important if you plan on starting or growing your business.
Don’t know how to design or put up a web site? Well, don’t feel out of place, most people don’t know how to put one together, let alone what to put on it. First, look at businesses or competition that already have sites. Granted, some of the web sites aren’t very functional or pretty, but they’re there and it’s a good place to get ideas. Learning to build a site takes a lot of time, so if you are inclined that way there are courses at local community colleges and computer stores to help you learn. If you are not technically inclined or just don’t have the time, consider hiring a professional web specialist. Beware though, check out who ever you are considering, ask for references and to see sites they have done ... there are differences. A web designer may know how to make it “pretty” but not know how to do a shopping cart or an IT guy may know how to make it “work” but it won't look good ... make sure whoever you hire has the knowledge or a team to do the entire process of both the design and the technology.
I work with a delightful woman named Sharon Sayler, at www.impressionengineers.com who specializes in helping build web sites that pull people into your business, by making the right impression from the start. I have worked with Sharon for over a year and her fresh ideas and intuitive insight are second to none. She is also an outstanding person to go to if you need to “Brand” yourself or your product. She has an excellent yet simple step-by-step program you can follow to determine what makes you unique and different from your competition.
My suggestion would be to get all your ideas together, along with any pictures you want to include. As well as, a short description of what you or your product does and exactly what you are offering. If you are marketing a service or information product, make sure to include a picture of yourself ... people like to know whom they are dealing with. Be sure and have several ways people can contact you. Besides email, consider a toll-free number, there are many inexpensive toll-free options today.
If you sell a product or service online, you will need a “shopping cart” ... not only do carts allow customers to order, they can track those orders; send out follow up auto responder emails and much more. After trying 3 of them (a very expensive proposition) I highly recommend 1 Shopping Cart, it is the easiest one to use, has lots of features and options and is simple to set up and administer. The part I like best, 1 Shopping Cart has the option of paying month to month, that way you’re not spending hundreds of dollars and the possibility of getting stuck with something that doesn’t work for you ... like I did with another cart system!
A little help in the beginning gets you started on the right track and will definitely make it easier for you to succeed. Maneuvering around the Internet on your own can be a daunting task and is probably responsible for many people never going anywhere with those fabulous ideas they have tucked away in their heads ... sometimes it’s just easier to take all of your ideas to someone like Sharon who can help you get the best presence on the Internet you possibly can. Go for it!

Are you ready for energy, class, grace and comedy all rolled into one? Then you will enjoy the delightful play Legends touring the country, staring Linda Evans and Joan Collins. Both from the former TV show Dynasty. These ladies take rivalry to a new level. They play two out of work, monetarily deficit actresses. They are bitter rivals that get conned into being in a play together because they think Paul Newman is going to play the lead.

This is Linda’s first try at comedy and speaking to her after the play she said she felt completely out of her league and totally terrified doing comedy, but she pulls it off beautifully. On the other hand Joan likes to change her approach each day so her delivery is a little different, that helps her keep it fresh for her and her audience.
Both women carry this off with perfect panache. They deal with a fast talking con artist producer who is desperately trying to get them to do his play, a male stripper …including a lap dance, “doctored up” brownies that make them spill their innermost thoughts and feelings, and a hip and totally together housekeeper who works diligently to keep the two women from killing each other. All and all a delightful hour and a half especially if you have enjoyed watching these two elegant actresses in the past.

And while I’m at it I also want to comment on Chita Rivera … A Dancers Life. This play is a must see for anyone who ever fell in love with the Broadway Musical West Side Story. Who could forget Chita’s character Anita?

At 74 years young, Chita has been on the stage for 56 years, a legend in her own right and still an extraordinary dancer. She has been nominated for seven Tony awards and received two. In A Dancers Life Chita walks you through her most well known rolls. You come away with a sense of having been there with her throughout her career. A must see for every baby boomer who has visions of staying young and vital. Chita has made it happen with class, dignity, and beauty and she’s not even a baby boomer, she’s actually the age of most of our mothers!
